Iraqi children beamed Sunday as U.S. troops distributed 30 boxes of toys donated by people in the United States and elsewhere as part of a project organized by a member of the Utah National Guard.
The toys, including dolls, soccer balls, toy vehicles and whistles, were distributed to the children's ward of the al-Iskan Hospital in a project called ''Giving Joy with Toys.''
Chief Warrant Officer Paul Holton of the 141st Military Intelligence Battalion of the Utah National Guard said he began the project two months ago when he posted an appeal for toys and donations on his Web site.
Holton said thousands of people, mostly from the United States, Britain and Australia, responded. He said thousands more toys will be distributed later throughout Iraq.
